Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data Health Trend Wire collects when you read the site, sign up for the newsletter or contact us, why we collect it, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. We have written it to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

  • You can read every story without giving us any personal data.
  • We only use analytics cookies if you click Accept. You can change your mind at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
  • We collect your email address only if you sign up for the newsletter, and your name and message only if you write to us.
  • We run no advertising, we do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
  • We never ask for health information about you, and we do not use your data to profile you.

Who is responsible for your data

Health Trend Wire (healthtrendwire.com) is an independent publication founded, owned and operated by Yash Malviya, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is the controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

For any privacy question, request or complaint, email info@healthtrendwire.com. The same address reaches the person who handles privacy grievances for Health Trend Wire.

What we collect and why

When you read the site

  • Analytics (only if you accept). We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which stories are read and how the site performs: pages viewed, how you arrived (for example from a search engine), time on page, approximate location at city level, and device, browser and screen type. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features or cross-device tracking, and we do not use analytics to identify you.
  • If you do not accept. Google Analytics still loads, but in Google Consent Mode with analytics storage switched off. It sets no cookies and sends only anonymous signals (for example that a page was viewed) that are not linked to you or your device. Google may use these to estimate overall visitor numbers.
  • Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider automatically records technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used only to keep the site running, secure and free of abuse.
  • Preferences stored in your browser. Your colour theme, the "Filter stories for" choice and your cookie choice are saved in your own browser (local storage). They are never sent to us.

When you sign up for the newsletter

We collect your email address and which part of the site you signed up from. We use it only to send you the Health Trend Wire briefing and messages about your subscription. Every email will include a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by emailing us.

When you contact us

The contact and advertising forms collect your name, email address, your message and, for advertising enquiries, your company and area of interest. We use these only to reply and to keep a record of the conversation. Please do not include health information about yourself or anyone else in a message; we do not need it and will delete it.

What we do not collect

We do not collect payment details, government ID, precise location or any special category data such as health information. We have no reader accounts. We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Legal bases for processing

Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Consent: analytics cookies and the newsletter. You can withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect processing that happened before.
  • Legitimate interests: replying to messages you send us, and keeping the site secure through server logs. We have weighed these interests against your rights and they are limited to what you would reasonably expect.
  • Legal obligation: keeping records or disclosing data where the law requires it.

Under the UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data (the PDPL), we process your data on the basis of the consent you give (by accepting analytics, signing up or sending a message) or for the other cases the PDPL permits, such as protecting our legitimate interests or complying with law.

Cookies and similar technologies

We set no advertising or social media cookies. The only cookies used on the public site are Google Analytics cookies, and only after you click Accept:

  • _ga: distinguishes one visitor from another. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_T0E3QQL51K: keeps track of your current visit (session). Expires after 2 years.

Browsers may delete these sooner (Safari, for example, after 7 days without a return visit). We also store three settings in your browser’s local storage, which are not cookies and are never sent to us: htw-theme (colour theme), htw-audience (story filter) and htw-consent (your cookie choice, kept for 12 months, after which we ask again).

Changing your choice. Use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page. If you reject after accepting, we switch analytics storage off and delete the Google Analytics cookies from your browser. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out add-on.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a rejection of analytics cookies and do not ask, unless you choose to accept through "Cookie settings".

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers (processors) that handle data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only to provide their service to us:

  • Vercel Inc. (United States): website hosting, content delivery and image storage. Processes server logs and form submissions in transit.
  • Neon Inc. (United States, AWS US East region): the database that stores newsletter sign-ups and messages sent through our forms.
  • Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited: Google Analytics, as described above. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Hostinger International Ltd (Cyprus): our email service, which handles emails you send to us and our replies.

If we start using a dedicated newsletter service to send the briefing, we will name it here before any subscriber data is transferred to it. We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or to a successor if the publication is ever sold or restructured, in which case this policy would continue to protect your data.

No selling or targeted advertising. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act.

International transfers

Health Trend Wire is run from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and our hosting and database are in the United States, so your data is transferred outside the country you live in. For data from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Vercel, Neon and Google are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions, and they also offer the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Transfers of personal data outside the UAE are made in line with the PDPL, which permits them to countries with an adequate level of protection or, otherwise, on the basis of appropriate safeguards or your consent.

How long we keep data

  • Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe. We then delete your address within 30 days, keeping only what is needed to make sure you are not emailed again.
  • Messages and enquiries: up to 24 months after our last exchange, then deleted, unless an ongoing business relationship or the law requires us to keep them longer.
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months, after which Google deletes user-level data automatically. Aggregated reports that identify no one may be kept longer.
  • Server logs: a short period set by our hosting provider, currently no more than 30 days.
  • Your cookie choice: 12 months in your browser.

Your rights

You can ask us, free of charge, to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy of it;
  • correct data that is wrong, incomplete or out of date;
  • delete your data;
  • restrict or object to how we use it, including objecting to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • send your data to you or another organisation in a portable format;
  • withdraw any consent you have given, as easily as you gave it.

To make a request, email info@healthtrendwire.com. We will reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first, usually by writing back to the email address in question. You can make a request yourself or through someone you authorise.

If you are in the EU or UK

You have the rights above under the GDPR and UK GDPR. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live, work or think a breach happened. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

If you are in the UAE

Under the UAE PDPL, you have the right to be informed about how your data is processed, to access it, to request its correction or completion, to request its erasure, to restrict or stop certain processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to object to decisions based solely on automated processing. Please raise any request or complaint with us first at the address above. If it is not resolved, you can complain to the UAE Data Office, the federal authority responsible for data protection.

If you are in the United States

Depending on your state, you may have the right to know, access, correct and delete personal data, and to opt out of its sale, sharing for targeted advertising, or profiling. We do not sell or share personal data or use it for profiling, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

Children

Health Trend Wire is written for adults and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and we do not track, profile or target advertising at them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Security

All traffic to the site is encrypted (HTTPS). Personal data is stored with providers that encrypt it at rest, and access to our systems is limited to the people who run the publication, protected by passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affecting your data occurs, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

When we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. If a change is significant, such as a new use of your data, we will make it prominent on the site and, where we need your consent, ask for it again.
